This is the last paragraph on the blog post that reads: “The biggest thing we do when we are in pain is to not allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by the joy it is giving us.” I don’t believe in the absolute worst-case scenario, but I do believe in letting ourselves get the most out of life. If we can get our minds off of the pain, we can actually get the most out of life.
It’s all about the joy. As much as pain is a component of life, it’s also a component of happiness. If we can get the “dissonance” from our pain, we can still get the greatest joy from it. A person with a good sense of humor is able to laugh at themselves and find the absurdity in everything.
I’ve heard a number of times that the best source of joy is a good laugh. I think this is true. I also think that happiness is often the result of a good sense of humor. I think it is true. Its also true that the worst kind of pain is the kind we can do without, because there is nothing left to do, and therefore no point to it. That’s why we feel pain in the first place.
