This summer, I was introduced to Ms. Mizukawa, the creator of the sumi-e-yuri manga. Sumi-e-yuri translates as “summer” but that may be a little too much to say, or maybe I just say it like that to fit in with the theme and color scheme. The word itself, that is, the series is called the “summer of the three layers”.
It’s a series about three girls who are each in a different stage of their lives. First, they are in high school. Second, they are in college. Third, they are in their twenties and in love with a man. At the end of summer, Ms. Mizukawa introduces these girls’ respective periods of summer. It’s a very clever way of showing the girls’ growth and change.
The three girls are not just in different stages, they are all in different places at the same time. This is a very clever use of time-looping to show the women’s growth. I love the color scheme of the anime and the color scheme of the songs as well.
